Questions
Good questions.
If yours isn’t here, email hello@whatsthelore.app.
What is Lore?
A warm, map-first app for finding places by how they feel — by their vibe and their story — before you go. Then heading out with the people you care about, and getting home safe. Not social media: no followers, no likes, no performance.
When does it launch?
We're in development now, opening city by city. Join the waitlist and we'll email you when Lore is ready where you are.
Is it free?
Yes — Lore is free to download. Lore+ unlocks more (unlimited Crews, full history, deeper search), and Lore Family adds the full safety suite. Founding explorers keep early access free, for good.
Which cities will it work in?
Anywhere on earth — the map is alive in any city, because places are added and enriched on the fly. We're seeding some cities deeper first; tell us yours when you sign up.
How is my location kept private?
You're hidden by default — a ghost on the map. You're only visible to the Crew you choose, only during an outing you start, and only while it's running. We never sell your location, and there's no always-on tracking.
iPhone or Android?
iPhone first (the beta runs on Apple TestFlight). Android follows.
How is this different from Google Maps, Snap Map, or Life360?
Google Maps tells you if one place is good; Lore tells you what a whole area is about, by feeling and story. Snap and Instagram are about where people are; Lore is about places. Life360 is always-on tracking; Lore's safety is something you switch on for a night, with consent.
What is "The Lore"?
Tap any place and read its story — what it is, why people love it, the history, the vibe — gathered and written in plain language. Like asking a local who happens to know everything.
How do I join the beta?
Sign up on the beta page (or check the “help test the beta” box on any signup form) and we’ll send a TestFlight invite when your city is ready.
